How to position yourself as an AI-first professional in 90 days

A week-by-week plan to rebuild your resume, LinkedIn and portfolio around outcomes instead of certificates.

Key takeaways up front

  • Positioning beats certificates in every shortlist we tracked
  • Three projects is the threshold where replies start
  • Your domain is the differentiator, not the tooling

Ninety days is enough to change how you are read by a recruiter — but only if you spend it producing evidence rather than collecting course completions.

1Days 1–30: pick a lane and ship one thing

Choose the AI application closest to your current job. Build one small automation that saves real hours in your own work, and measure the saving.

  • Week 1: assessment, path selection, tool setup
  • Week 2: map one repetitive workflow end to end
  • Week 3: build the automation
  • Week 4: measure hours saved and write it up

2Days 31–60: build in public

Publish the write-up. Post the build log. Recruiters and managers do not read certificates, but they do read a one-page story with a number in it.

  • Project two: something with data, not just prompts
  • Rewrite your resume around outcomes: verb, system, metric
  • Rewrite your LinkedIn headline to name the problem you solve

3Days 61–90: convert

Project three should be adjacent to the job you want next, not the one you have. Then start conversations — internal first, external second, since your current employer already trusts your context.

What to do next

  • One measurable automation beats five certificates.
  • Write up every build; the write-up is the asset.
  • Start internal — the fastest AI promotion is usually in your current company.
